HAIL MARY FULL O' ASS!!

This past weekend I went to Dunkerque to visit Benjamin Bassimon, a badass printmaker friend of mine who is the shop manager at Musée Gravelines.

The museum is currently exhibiting Durer's Apocalypse as well as a few gnarly prints by Damien Deroubaix, so after printing and teaching a class, we geeked out there for a while. This was all after Benjamin and Virginie, the museum director, took me down to the reserves to see some Posadas, Goyas, David Lynchs, and Barbara Krugers. hollahollahollahollahollahollhaohaohoalalla.

THE DUCK 'N' COVER NUCLEAR FALLOUT DESK!!!!

So I was invited to do a project for University City Childrens' Center where you take a vintage school desk and transform it into something else. The project is called Fearful, Feisty, and Flexible and all the desks get auctioned off to raise money for scholarships to the school. Mine is THE DUCK 'N' COVER NUCLEAR FALLOUT DESK! inspired by my parents' Cold War stories of doing "duck and cover" drills in grade school where they would crouch under their desks in the case of Soviet nuclear bomb threats. Everything on here is screenprinted, then wheat-pasted. It was my first time wheat-pasting, and let me tell you, if you let it sit out too long, it smells like vomit. GOD BLESS THIS DESK AND NO ONE ELSE!

Updates since March!

HELL WEEK

March 17th-21st, Evil Prints took over SGC and hosted HELL WEEK. If you were there, you know how off the hook it was. If you weren't, I could write a book, but at the very least I'll tell you that Evil Prints was the place to be and that there were 3 giant parties, lots of badass bands, thousands of wide-eyed kids hanging out at the shop, The Dirty Printmakers of America vs The Bastards of Printmaking had a Grudge Match, Artemio Rodriguez was the guest artist in residence at EP, Jeff Rial and Derrick Riley came up from Kentucky and worked their asses off for us and pulled some killer prints, Dennis McNett took over the city with a war vessel, and we ended the world with The Printbangers Ball.

Photos of Printbangers Ball from the Riverfront Times: Photos, photos, my booth is the 2nd or 3rd one!

Here's my facebook photo album of Hell Week: don't stalk me you pervert!

McNett's superb wrap-up of the real meaning of Hell Week: on his blog, heeeeeere.

During this time, I got to display a few pieces at the St. Louis Museum of Art at a show called Ad Huck, which was an exhibition of Evil Prints staff work to accompany Tom Huck's show there. I got a mention in an article by St. Louis Magazine where they interview Huck- it's about 3/4 down the page, and it says this:
"SLM: There was this younger, woman printmaker on your website—

TH:
That’s Julia Curran. Julia’s our shop manager. I have two people who are here now, Aaron Lovell, he’s our master printer, he’s been here forever. And Julia has been here for almost going on a year now. She’s between undergrad and grad school. She went to Truman State. My best people have come from middle-of-nowhere schools. They have. Her work is crazy. I get that kind of person. They want to come in here and be themselves. They like the dark and lurid subject matter. She’s good."

Check out the rest of the article!!

Evil Prints was also featured on a program called Living Saint Louis. My 15 seconds of fame and glory are at the end, but don't go skipping any of the boring parts now.

Aaaaaaaaaaand finally, I made my MTV debut when my friend and fellow artist of the music sort, Orie, asked me to be part of his premiere video, Battlefield. Makin' prints in a music video? Yeahthatsright!
